Areas of Expertise
I specialize in the treatment of trauma, mood, anxiety, personality disorders, and substance use. My practice is rooted in trauma-informed care and I have a passion for addressing emotional and behavioral challenges using advanced intervention techniques including:
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed for working
with distressing or traumatic memories. EMDR posits that many psychological and emotional difficulties are the result of distressing life experiences which have not been stored in memory properly and are said to be "unprocessed" or "blocked". These experiences and resulting core beliefs may need some help to become processed, and EMDR is
one way to do this.
EMDR sessions are sometimes slightly longer than typical therapy sessions (up to 90 minutes). The number of sessions needed will depend on the type and severity of trauma you experienced. I often estimate that 8-12 sessions may be necessary to treat singular traumas, with more sessions necessary for multiple/chronic traumas.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a broad-based cognitive-behavioral treatment based on a dialectical and biosocial theory of psychological disorder that emphasizes the role of difficulties in regulating emotions, both under and over control, and behavior. Emotion dysregulation has been linked to a variety of mental health problems stemming from patterns of instability in emotion regulation, impulse control, interpersonal relationships, and self-image. DBT skills are aimed directly at these dysfunctional patterns. The overall goal of DBT skills training is to help individuals change behavioral, emotional, thinking, and interpersonal patterns associated with problems in living.
Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a powerful tool for supporting nervous system regulation. The SSP is an acoustic vagus nerve stimulator developed by Dr. Stephen Porges based on his Polyvagal Theory. The purpose of this auditory intervention is to help you access a physiological state conducive to well-being, positive engagement with others, and growth in learning and therapy” (UNYTE ILS: Non-invasive therapeutic tools, safe and sound protocol, 2022). SSP can be delivered in person or remotely with therapeutic support.
Coaching is the process of partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership.
